Contribute to the Memory of Eddie 2 Spoons

Dear friends and family,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Eddie Gene McCray Jr. on January 27th, 2024.

Affectionately known as "Eddie 2 Spoons," Eddie G. McCray was a cherished member of the Detroit community. For over 30 years, he delighted audiences with his talents for playing table spoons alongside a host of Detroit bands and artists. Many will fondly remember "Eddie 2 Spoons" for his performances at "Blues in the Park" located on Chene and Franklin Street every summer for over a decade, as well as at the Office Ultra Lounge and Grill on Livernois, and at the TCBC Hall up until December of 2023. In addition to his musical endeavors, Eddie dedicated many years of service as a DOT bus driver for the Detroit Department of Transportation until his retirement.

Eddie McCray's unexpected departure has left us all grappling with profound grief. Now, in the wake of Eddie's passing, we find ourselves faced with the daunting task of arranging his memorial services. Our goal with this GoFundMe campaign is to raise $4000 by February 19th to ensure that Eddie receives the dignified farewell he deserves. These funds will cover the costs of professional funeral services, including a livestream of the proceedings at James Cole Funeral Home located on Schaefer in Detroit, as well as arrangements for cremation.

We want to share with you that despite having an active life insurance policy for over 20 years with National Gaardian Life Insurance. Eddie encountered unforeseen challenges in the last month prior to his passing, and his life insurance lapsed without the children being aware, while he was battling for his life in and out of the hospital due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident.

It is at this time that we turn to our extended family, friends, fellow musicians, church members, and all those whose lives were touched by Eddie's presence, smile, love, or laughter to come together and honor his memory.

We humbly ask each member of our family, from cousins to nephews, nieces, and sons, to contribute any minimal amount towards this cause. Additionally, we are reaching out to the venues where Dad shared his musical talents, local churches, and close friends who walked alongside him throughout his life to celebrate with us by having one more gathering of praise to thank God for the life of Eddie Gene McCray.
