Donation relief for Bremner-Fairman family

This GoFundMe, has been started by the family and close friends of the Bremner - Fairman family. It is in support of Jaida Marae Fairman, her mother Melissa and brother Noah, as they continue to bravely navigate Jaida's liver transplant journey.

Jaida was born with Biliary Atresia, which is a serious liver disorder, that occurs before or shortly after birth when a baby's bile ducts (the tubes that carry bile from the liver) become blocked. The body needs bile to aid digestion and carry waste from the liver out of the body. When these ducts are blocked, it prevents bile from being excreted; as a result, the liver becomes scarred and damaged.

From birth, Jaida has been a fighter. Her first major surgery was the Kasai procedure at 10 weeks old, which established bile drainage for a few months. However, Jaida’s liver disease progressed and she received a living donor transplant at 13 months old. This gift of life was graciously donated by a close family friend, who remains steadfast in his faith, a vocal supporter of Jaida, and an advocate for living donor donations.

Jaida's life has been anything but easy. With her mother by her side every step of the way, she has courageously managed countless doctors appointments, hospital stays, overwhelming feelings and emotions related to being a transplant recipient and questions about her mortality. Despite this, Jaida puts forth an admirable effort trying to live her life with optimism and normalcy.

On May 16th 2024 after being at The Hospital for Sick Kids for over two months, Jaida received a second living donor transplant from a dear childhood and family friend. This selfless and life saving act blessed Jaida with the gift of life for a second time. Her donor wasted no time, stepping up to do what she could to help save Jaida's life. From submitting the required paper work in less than 2 days, she completed the living donor donation process and donated a portion of her liver.

Jaida endured a difficult 13 hour surgery which also included the removal of her spleen. Jaida was in the ICU less than 24 hours and unfortunately, due to complications, had to return to the operating room for emergency life saving surgery the following day (May 17th). Jaida was in the ICU for several days and will remain in hospital for at least 4-6 weeks (best case scenario) followed by further recovery at home.

Jaida's mother Melissa has been her biggest supporter, spending days on end sleeping at the hospital, ensuring Jaida feels loved and knows she is not alone. Melissa is not one to ask for help and has been on an unpaid family medical leave from work, juggling financial obligations, caring for her son, trying to ensure that his routine goes as uninterrupted as much as possible and tending to Jaida. Needless to say this is a very stressful time for all involved. The emotional, physical, mental and financial aspects of these trying times is taking a toll, yet by faith they keep pushing through.

The goal of this GoFundMe is to support this inspiring family through this time and with Jaida's recovery. The next few months will be critical for this family’s healing and they need our support. By making a donation of any denomination, this would help reduce the various stressors that they are all experiencing.
