Support for Marie Wetherelt
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Dorthea Mills and I am fundraising for Marie Wetherelt. Marie was in a serious car accident on June 30, 2024 and will be in Calgary for an extended time. This money will help lift the financial burden for Marie’s family and will allow them to stay with Marie and support her through her recovery.
On Sunday, June 30, Marie was riding with a friend and his mom travelling back home to Vauxhall when another vehicle hit them head on. An SUV had rear ended an another vehicle that was turning off the highway and then bounced off and hit the vehicle Marie was riding in head on. Marie was airlifted by STARS to Calgary, her friend was taken to Lethbridge and unfortunately his mother didn’t make it. Our thought and prayers are with that family at this time. I am unsure how the people in the other vehicles are doing, but hope for a full recovery for all.
Marie is going to need a back surgery but her kidney was bleeding and the doctors wanted to get that under control first. They have pushed her back surgery until Friday, July 5th. She ended up being rushed in for an emergency surgery on her bowel at 2am on Tuesday, July 2nd. They discovered she had a perforated bowel and were able to get that repaired. She has a feeding tube in her nose and will have drains in her abdomen for the week. She will need more surgeries and it is uncertain how long Marie will be in Calgary.
Marie was a member of my 4-H Club - the Retlaw Prairie 4-H Beef Club for 8 years. Marie did every project that we offered. She did the pheasant project, horse project, sheep projects, and beef projects. Marie had the champion flock in her final year of 4-H. She also had a beef breeders herd. It is quite an accomplishment to get a flock and herd to the achievement day. Marie was president of our club her last year. She attended many camps and participated in 4-H events at the Club, District, Regional and Provincial level. As a 4-H leader I genuinely care about my members and love to see their accomplishments. I was so proud of Marie when she graduated last year. She has been working full time since then.
I’m really hoping our little community, family and friends will be able to help support Marie and help her and her family through her recovery. I thank you for any contributions you are able to make and ask that you help to share this.
