HOME SWEET HOME FOR OCEAN

Who is Ocean?
Ocean is a 9-year-old little legend who bravely lives with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. Ocean is non-verbal and zooms through life in a wheelchair. He has a megawatt smile and the goofiest little laugh, making everyone around him feel good. Ocean also has Fragile-X Syndrome and the very rare genetic condition GNAO-1 and Cortical Vision impairment, which have all contributed to Ocean’s severely impacted intellect.
Ocean’s biggest fan is his Mum, Robyn. She is a single mum, and as his primary carer, she has dedicated her life to making Ocean happy and ensuring that he thrives.
This spritely duo lives in the town of Scarborough in Perth, Australia.
Ocean’s Reality:
Ocean’s days are jam-packed with various therapies and specialist appointments to improve his physical and cognitive development. Due to the complexity of Ocean’s health, he spends a lot of time in and out of Perth Children’s Hospital because of seizures and/or surgeries.
With Ocean’s full schedule, Robyn has been unable to get a normal job which has put massive financial strain on covering even the most basic of living expenses.
Ocean & Robyn’s Need:
Their current rental property is scheduled to be redeveloped in the coming year and so they will be forced to look for another home to rent.
As Ocean is getting heavier it will soon become impossible for Robyn to continue carrying him in her arms. They will need a home with necessary modifications eg. ramps for Ocean’s wheelchair, a hoist to relocate him to different areas of the home, as well as sufficient space needed for the loads of therapy equipment he uses daily.
Due to the nature of Ocean's volatile health, the importance for them to live within close distance to the hospital is paramount. But with the current rental crisis being so dire, Robyn is extremely concerned about securing a property within their budget that is also suitable to Ocean’s needs now and in the future.
Robyn’s dream:
Prior to becoming a Mum, Robyn worked in the Textile industry for 15 years. She has had to give up her career to focus on caring for Ocean full-time. If Robyn had more resources behind her to afford regular In-Home Support carers to assist her in looking after Ocean, Robyn could dedicate time to working on a new venture of hers – to create an Adaptive wear clothing line for kids with disabilities. Robyn has noticed a massive gap in the market when it comes to on-trend but functional clothes for people with disabilities. She has every hope of not being reliant on Government Carers allowance for the rest of her life. She would just love the same opportunity as most parents: to be able to work and create a secure future for her child, and to get the chance to chase her dreams and flourish.
Robyn’s ultimate dream is to one day be able to buy a home for the two of them, to establish a stable home base for Ocean that can be customised to support the very specific equipment he needs.
In a world that has so many challenges for Ocean, he still sparkles with the brightest smile and the bravest spirit, always inspiring those around him.
This GoFundMe has been created to help this little team have some security in life, and a chance to thrive. I'd love to ensure Robyn has the funds to afford a place to live that can support Ocean's needs. With the Government allowance not enough to cover her living expenses, and no solid employment possible while she is a full-time carer, she has no chance of being able to find a place to live, let alone one that can support the special and intensifying needs of her child.
Help us support this unique and inspiring family to take closer steps to secure their home. They deserve every opportunity to live a life as beautiful as they are.
