Donations in Memory of Rudy Cabigas

My name is Katelyn Cabigas and I am the daughter of Rudy Cabigas. In honor of my father’s passing, I would like to give back to two very important organizations; the American Cancer Society and the Arthritis Foundation. For those of you who may have not known Rudy or those that knew him well he lived the majority of his life battling the daily struggles of arthritis and was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with cancer which he lost his battle to on Sunday June 5,2022.

Rudolph (Rudy) Cabigas: Husband, Father, firefighter, fix-it man, traveler, history buff and reenactor, gardener, photographer, outdoors-man, A’s fan, engaged community member, big smile, friend to all.

Anyone who knew Rudy at all knows he was a very personable, gregarious man! The very definition of a people person, he had wide ranging interests and a genuine interest in other people, leading him to strike up conversations with just about anybody. Quite often it was the cashier at a convenience store, or server at a restaurant. He was always the last one at the party.

After being diagnosed in his 30's with multiple types of arthritis, that would alter any normal persons daily activities and perspective on life, Rudy never let it stop him. He lived a full life from his 30 year career with the  San Jose Fire Department, working at the United States Post Office, serving on the Scotts Valley Fire Board, traveling the world with his beautiful wife Belinda, a member of multiple bocce clubs, fishing, hunting, and teaching his daughter how to ride horses. He suffered daily pain and discomfort but never let that show to the outside world and enjoyed his life till the very end. He was a true inspiration to us all.

Two and a half years ago Rudy was diagnosed with head and neck cancer which was a surprise to us all. He was determined to put in all he had to beat this not only for himself but for the people he loved. He underwent a major surgery to remove the tumor followed by intense radiation and when it had metastasized he was strong-willed and took on chemotherapy.  In December of 2021 his doctors diagnosed him terminal and with the support of his family and friends he lived every day to the fullest. On Sunday June 5, 2022 surrounded by family and friends Rudy passed away peacefully in his home.

“All donations, unless specified, will be divided between the two organizations.”

We appreciate every donation that is given in my father’s name. Most importantly with feel so lucky for all the love and support.
