Donations Needed For Urgent Medical Care/Expenses

Thank-you for reading this GoFundMe campaign for Dr. Donald Harris. He has been practicing in Newport Beach and Laguna Hills California for over 45 years. In January 2019, Dr. Harris was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer (a very progressive form, with a large tumor in his colon).
Dr. Harris left California and returned to Oregon in order to seek treatment where the initial surgeon had discovered the tumors. His tumors had ruptured and spread the cancer cells outside of the colon which was most unfortunate. The mass was surgically removed, along with about 40% of his colon. He began bio therapy and chemotherapy for eight months. During this time, Dr. Harris encountered at least five major complications, including a large blood clot in his leg which ran from his hip to his foot. He was treated 24/7 in an intensive care, for weeks, ultimately concluding with more surgery.
Unfortunately, over a six month period, (January 20th through July 3), treatments and surgeries have forced Dr. Harris to close his private Optometry practice in Southern California. Over the last 22 years, Dr. Harris‘ other passion was reshaping the cornea and stabilizing the desired change of the cornea, non-surgically. Sadly, he has also had to give up that passion. Not being able to continue this research means that his life long dedication to this dream may not be realized. What is especially heartbreaking is the thought that his dream may never come true.
Dr. Harris’ total provider medical bills -- which account for 10 hospital stays in 3 different locations, doctor bills, and medications since May 2019 -- have exceeded $252,000! His out-of-pocket after Medicare and Humana insurance, has exceeded $20,000 just at this point, and he is still not in the clear. With ongoing treatments, by December 31, 2019 his projected medical bills exceed $500,000! Of this amount, an additional estimated $40,000 will be incurred personally, by Dr. Harris.
Dr. Harris has been consumed with serious financial difficulties, with his previous and on-going medical expenses. He cannot begin to afford the out-of-pocket expenses that he will be facing. Dr. Harris has spent his lifetime bettering the lives of his patients. He is a pioneer in his field and is respected by his patients, colleagues and all who know him.
