Tanya Seaman (b. 1967, d. 2022) will forever be remembered as a force to be reckoned with. She was a fierce advocate for environmentalism, sustainability, reducing car dependence and promoting vision zero in Philadelphia. She is truly the embodiment of “think globally, act locally”. Some of Tanya’s recent accomplishments include leadership on the Safe Pathways to our Schools project to bring street murals to our elementary schools and organizing for the 22nd street protected bike lane. In addition, she was a longtime PHS Tree Tender leader and past chair of the SOSNA Economic Development Committee and Triangles Committee. She authored a Climate Action Platform for Philadelphia, a bold vision for the city to address the climate crisis. Before her time working in activism, she was a founder of PhillyCarShare.
Tanya impacted so many lives in our neighborhood in a positive way. Her focus on education and communication, teaching people there is a better way, was very effective at opening minds. We will forever be grateful for her work. We are raising funds to honor Tanya which will be used for artwork for the SOSNA Triangles, a project she cared deeply about.
