Superhero Grandpa VS. Cancer
Donation protected
As one of 3 kids raised by Don, I can tell you first hand how unbeleivably caring and selfless he is. I could go on about how this single dad sacrificed everything to give his kids a happy childhood, or how faithfully he guided them while teaching them to find their own paths without judgement.
(He's coached countless times for all three of us kids)
But I want to emphasize his many years of work helping OTHER peoples children, too. Throughout the years he has worked in numerous social programs as a counselor, teacher and mentor for troubled teens, children, and even as a daycare supervisor.
(Teaching Future Foster Parents)
All of these years later, people find him and send him messages about how he was a positive influence, helped turn their lives around, or prevented them from doing something unthinkable by being there for them. It's the same reason he sacrificed everything for us, and now his grandbabies.... He just wants to make a positive impact and help kids realize their full potential.
(Kids showing their appreciation)
Unfortunately, these jobs... well, they never payed very well. So, now later in life, there is no pension fund or life savings for him to fall back on to support bills, special equipment, and proper nutrition while he recovers from Stage 3 cancer (tonsils and lymph, currently).
We (the kids), are seeking $64000k to support top notch nutrition, cover some bills while he can't work, and some therapies that his basic insurance will not cover (they only cover strictly chemo/radiation).
The family is taking out a loan to get him started, but we only qualify for 20% of what we need, so the sooner we can round up the $64000k, the sooner we can all relax and focus on kicking this cancer's butt.
Since you are willing to invest in this man who has spent his life helping others, we would like to regularly update everyone through blogs and videos. We'll keep you posted on that.
This would mean the world to the family, and the grandbabies have the most to gain out of this, as I have never seen a kid as happy as they are when "Kappaw" is in the house. He's payed it forward his whole life and we am hoping beyond hope that we can help him get through this with the least amount of pain and damage to his throat possible.
When he is done and recovered, he has plans to pay it all back, yet again, and will be working with HealthSavor to start a cancer recovery nutrition fund for others in his situation. Your generous gift/donation is one that will keep on giving, rest assured.
Thank you all x infinity

Below are some of those messages he has recieved. If you have one you'd like us to include, message us here. THANKS GUYS!!
From Bev Lawhorn, parent of 12 year old he worked with as Juvenile court program director. "Don, you helped my daughter when no one else could. May I add that you were the only one who made me feel better about myself during a very bad period in my life. I thank you for the encouragement and support given to me. "
". . . 30 years after helping young Becky through a terrible period in her life, she spoke to her husband about Don and that particular time in her life and started to cry. 'Don is one of the best people I ever met in my life and he helped me when no one else could.'"

"the only man I met while in the system that really cared, and that literally saved my life." - Sue Deleven
