Doncaster Sea Cadet Fundraiser

I'm Teresa Hodgson and I am challenging myself to run eight daily half marathons - a total of over 105 miles - to raise money for Doncaster Sea Cadet Corps which is a cause close to my heart.

The Sea Cadets have had a tough year. Thieves recently broke into an ransacked their premises and damaged their safety boat which is leased. They also need to carry out repairs on a leaking roof.

Whereas the Air Cadets and the Army Cadets are funded by the MOD, they have to raise their own funding.

They need to raise at least £5000 and even that would only scratch the surface as they need additional money for equipment for music and lots of different activities.

The Sea Cadets have more than 30 members and offer an invaluable resource for young people in Doncaster who have an interest in the Royal Navy.

I have seen what they do, and it is amazing, helping young people gain valuable life experiences and setting them on the path to responsible adulthood.

The Sea Cadets offer a range of different activities from sailing, windsurfing and power boating - to rock climbing camping and music to youngsters aged 10-17.

The Cadets are taught discipline and enter the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme. You only have to go down the street to see what kids get up to these days.

Not all of them go into the military and the more we support our cadets, the more chance we have of getting well- rounded adults

I intend to run eight daily half marathons over a week in September on the Trans-Pennine Trail and the track at Doncaster Dome.

Any money raised would make such a difference to our cadets who support the local community.
