Donna and Katie Run for the Mather!

Dear Friends,
We are running the Boston Marathon this year which will be our first ever marathon. This is exciting to us for so many reasons, but most importantly because we can help out our students!
We are running in honor of the Mather Elementary School in Dorchester, Ma where we both are employed. Donna is the School Nurse and Katie is the Special Education teacher for the upper grades. Our focus is to help fundraise towards money for field trips, which previous colleagues have done. Field trips provide our students with learning outside of the classroom, as well as exposure to many of the resources our city has to offer.
We both have been a part of Boston Public Schools for decades and have watched as each year, for a variety of reasons, the cost of field trips is increasing and becoming less affordable and less accessible for many of our students. Mather students have had the opportunity to go to an overnight camp in Vermont, apple picking and exploring museums. Field trips are not only beneficial, but a necessity to one’s overall learning experiences. A field trip can help children discover new interests and spark motivation to succeed. These opportunities may be the only exposure for some of our students.
Through the support of our friends and family, we would like to ensure that all students at the Mather continue to participate in field trips and continue experience new learning adventures. Please help us continue to foster their learning and allow them a chance to discover new passions!
Thank you for your support, along with our students-we thank you!
Sincerely,
Katie McCosker Donna Feeney Airosus
