Donna Gaunt - Terminal Cancer Medical Expenses
Donation protected
In 2021, Donna was diagnosed with triple negative, highly aggressive breast cancer. One successful lumpectomy and round of radiation treatments later, Donna was declared cancer free and began to relive her life as though she was dying. To paraphrase the Tim McGraw song, she went skydiving (which she did), she went Rocky Mountain climbing (she hiked two 14ers in the same day in Colorado), she rode 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu-Man-Chu (she hasn't admitted to this, but I don't think it would surprise anyone).
Life was good. Life was moving forward.
Until now...
After first experiencing some pain in October 2022 and going through subsequent checks, tests, scans, appointments from January through March, it was determined that the breast cancer had returned. It had metastasized in her bone marrow. Stage 4 and terminal.
But that wasn't all.
Further tests revealed that the cancer had also formed in her brain and upper spine areas as well.
The harsh reality is that based on the current conditions, radiation and chemotherapy treatments are palliative in nature. Meaning that they will be performed with the intention of easing her pain, making her pain more manageable, and providing her with the best level of comfort she can have with the time she has left.
Speaking of which... no one can ever predict the future. But based on current conditions, she is looking at 3 months or fewer even with radiation/chemo treatments. When that clock started ticking is anyone's guess unfortunately.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Brooke and I have set up this caring bridge to provide updates to anyone as we receive them.
Please share your well wishes, share your memories, share your photos.
Donna always knew this was a possibility and always talked about wanting to spend her last days helping others make memories.
She's going to have good days, and she's going to have bad days - but if she's feeling well enough, she wants to hear your voice, she wants to share in creating more memories for you.
If you know Donna, you know that she would never ask for help.
We have, however, set up a gofundme for anyone who wishes to donate in an effort to help cover medical expenses, which are going to continue to increase exponentially.
Donna is a special person. And her relationship with you is just as special. Please take this time and opportunity to share in celebrating that relationship.
