Donna Needs a New Liver

Donation protected

Anyone who knows Donna knows she is a light in every room and one of the most selfless people you will ever meet. She would give anything to see those around her smile. Now it's our turn to give some sunshine back to her and her family.

Donna is currently in a very desperate, but hopeful, situation with her health. The short version is that she needs a new liver as soon as possible. We are praying for a miracle in whatever form that may be. If you would like the details please continue to read below.

We are raising money for the Ma family because this past week, Donna was rushed to the ICU in Regina and then flown by air ambulance to Edmonton where she is working with two of the top liver specialists in Canada to hopefully recover and be able to live a normal life again. Her husband Kevin and her kids Riley, Emily, & Tyler as well as her sister are staying in Edmonton with her. We do not have a timeline as to when they will all be back home, so we are asking for help in allowing for accommodations, medical bills, and the many other expenses that come with staying out-of-province for an extended period of time.

Donna and her family are the last ones to ask for help and would much rather be on the giving end of this equation, which is why I (her niece, Kayla) have decided to set up this page. Let’s come together to take some of the financial burden away – they have enough to handle without it.

Please join us in prayer as so many of you already have, and if you are able to give, it would mean the world to us all.

We are so grateful for your generosity – every dollar matters in helping this family. More details can be found below.

Here are some more details:

Everything started about 10 years ago when Donna was diagnosed with fatty liver. Things did not become more serious until about 6 years ago when the cirrhosis on her liver was evidently getting worse.

In the past year, her condition has deteriorated even more as she was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis and started building up fluid in her abdomen. After several procedures to drain the fluid (as well as an attempt to put in a permanent drain that was emptied daily by homecare), she was finally admitted into the ICU in Regina  due to an infection in the area where the tube was placed. She also suffered from dangerously high (could have been fatal) levels of potassium to build up which led to her being flown to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton and admitted to their ICU. Here she is being seen by 2 of the top liver specialists in western Canada to review her case and be put on the liver transplant list. Due to her liver issues, she also now has damage to both kidneys as well as her spleen.

Now that Donna is in the ICU in Edmonton, she is still being treated for the infection in her abdomen, and the doctors are draining her as regularly as her body can handle (it takes a lot of nutrition from her body).

Donna is receiving exceptional care in Edmonton, and we are all so grateful for her team there. The staff at the hospital’s social services have been amazing at helping find affordable accommodation for her family, but the funds raised here will help with the burden associated with this as well as other expenses required to stay far from home and medical bills.

Again, thank you so much.
