Donnie's (Poppy's) Lung transplant

Our Poppy, Donnie Tipton, was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, which is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and/or liver. In October 2022, Poppy had a Zephyr Valve transplant. Unfortunately, the repairs did not work. Since the repair, his Alpha 1 has progressed rapidly, and has led to a quick decline in his health, and overall quality of life. Alpha 1 is not curable, and Poppy lives his life connected to an oxygen tank. Memaw and Poppy meet with a Pulmonologist regularly here in Quincy but, also make trips to and from Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. On December 12, Poppy will be placed on the lung transplant list at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Here comes the part where we ask for your help… once Poppy is on the transplant list, when a donor lung is available for him, he will need to recover in St. Louis for a minimum of 3 months. While being away from their entire support system, they will be living in St. Louis, MO with no work, as he will be in need of care around the clock. Memaw will be his caregiver during the healing process, and while she is strong, and can handle anything, she will be focused on caring for her loving husband.
