DOPAMINE: Pain vs Pleasure

DOPAMINE: Pain vs. Pleasure is an art exhibit featuring works from local artists of many skills, platforms, and backgrounds. On January 1st, over 30 artists were given the prompt and concept of dopamine and the role the neurotransmitter plays in the human experience and consequently in various issues, ranging from chronic pain to addiction.

While the project was conceived to challenge artists to "think outside of the box" of a conventional art development process, the project took on a new life and meaning. The topic impacted many artists and elicited emotion, gaining traction and interest. We've partnered with Nashville Angels, a local nonprofit working to improve the quality and care in the foster system, to enrich the lives of those in

need.

We believe that the stories we tell, and the art we create, begin at a young age. All artists have a story to tell. This project has accepted all who applied and does not discriminate based on experience or skill level. Pain and pleasure are universal emotions that we experience throughout our lifetime.

Nashville Angels' Love Box program is an opportunity to take further action by connecting with other dedicated volunteers to create a pathway of hope for children in the foster care system. Volunteers meet practical, everyday needs, and build intentional relationships with the families they serve.

Nashville Angels' Dare to Dream program is a one-on-one mentorship program for aged-out or at-risk-to-age-out foster youth (ages ranging from 15-21). Our mentors are advocates, role models, valued friends, available resources, cheerleaders, and career enthusiasts.

Our event is set to take place on Friday, April 28th, for a one-night exhibit featuring the works of art created in January 2023. In lieu of ticket sales, we will be accepting donations via GoFundMe and refreshments will be served while the community discusses the prompt and views the gallery. The pieces range from fashion, photography, and cinematography, to painting and illustration.
