Hi!! My name is Kenefere Kamani and I go to Temple University.
When I first committed to Temple, I did not think I would love it here as much as I do but one of the reasons, I do is because of the wonderful people I have met along the way and one of those people is my friend Dora. Dora is one of the very very best people I have ever met in my life. She is incredibly strong, intelligent, passionate, kind and just spreads so much love and joy to every and anyone around her.
Dora is a Political Science major at Temple and has been struggling to pay for her tuition and has been fighting with Temple since the summer before she even step foot on campus. Because she is not able to take out of loan. She has until February 22nd to pay $4000 or she has to leave Temple in the middle of the semester.
Dora is a first generation American. Whose parents immigrated from Nairobi, Kenya. She is also the first in her family to attend University. She has worked extremely hard despite multiple setbacks to be able to come to a four-year college.
Since coming to Philadelphia she has been heavily involved in her Temple community. Doing community out-reach work. Helping start a club on campus getting student registered to vote and so much more.
Since coming to Temple she has exhausted every option. She submitted a financial appeal in July and it still hasn't been processed by Temple Student Financial Services. She also has been given the max amount of federal aid. She also has received grants. She was able to raise $16,000 dollars with all her efforts. But has $4000 left.
She is fully financially independent and receives no help from her parents.
Dora’s 19th birthday just passed January 31st and her being able to stay at Temple would be an amazing birthday present for her!
I cannot stress how much Dora is loved here at Temple and not only do I want her to stay because we've grown to be so close, but she DESERVES to be here, and she has FOUHT to stay here this long and Temple has truly failed her. Everyone has a right to an education, it is a basic human right and although Temple has failed her, anything that anyone can donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much
