Doreen Murphy Prendergast's fund

Doreen Murphy is a single mother of four, and one of the most generous, amazing human beings I know, and she needs help.

Doreen lost her husband Scott, April 19, 2014, after a long illness.  During Scott’s illness and after, Doreen kept their family going, worked a demanding full time job, was an active member of her Church and was always on at one sporting event or another in support of her children’s activities…and always with a smile and a laugh.  After 28 years in the IT industry, Doreen was affected by a company restructuring which eliminated her job.  She has been tirelessly searching for another position with no success.  All of this, after the family’s home was destroyed as a result of hurricane Sandy and had to be rebuilt, leaving Doreen in enormous debt. 

Now her 20 year old son is in kidney failure.  A congenital condition since birth suddenly escalated to drive his situation to critical status.  Thankfully Doreen was a match for her son and selflessly gave him one of her own kidneys, but now she is in a place where she needs to heal and help him through a very long and scary recovery.  Doreen’s youngest daughter is recovering from double knee surgeries requiring intensive physical therapy.  Her 82 year old mother fell on New Year’s Eve and broke her hip.  Just before the holidays, the family’s beloved dog, Kemo, was stricken with bone cancer and had to be put down.   While dealing with all the mounting tragedies and blessings, she still needs to find a job, pay their bills, mortgage, credit cards, loans, and put food on the table.

Doreen is the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, and has put all of herself into her family, community, Church and job for her whole life.  Please consider contributing to a fund to get Doreen and her family back on their feet.
