Doreen’s fight against Cancer

Donation protected
This fund raising campaign is for Doreen D. Pawell being organized by Maureen D. DAIT with the help and support of relatives and friends Mariza Consolacion, Johanna Meyer, Jordan Ermilio, and Vivian Romero
We are setting up this GoFundMe to raise money for a loving mother, great aunt, dedicated public worker, a very caring and generous friend for her treatment of her very aggressive ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA.

Doreen is a civil servant working and serving her fellow members of the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) of the Philippines. She loved working in her home province of Ifugao, Philippines where her fellow ICCs/IPs are located. In the course of her work, she meets and partners with other agencies on programs for ICCs/IPs. Some of her partners are the members of the Peace Corp Volunteers of the USA, Canada and volunteers from other countries who were assigned in her community. She assisted them in their work with the community until their end of assignment. Some of the volunteers come back for visits after their volunteer work. Her life in the province was simple and very fulfilling until she fell ill. She was in a meeting at the Regional Office in Baguio City when she felt weak and felt something odd that she could not explain. She brushed it aside thinking she was just tired. Her mind was focused on her submission of their office’s report for the yearend of CY 2019. She finished all her reports and decided to go to the hospital for routine check-up. The doctors can’t believe the results of her blood test that they had to do a repeat blood works. This time, the doctor informed her that she will have to be confined as her WBC is so high. After the two weeks confinement for tests, the doctors informed her that she has ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA.She was recommended for further treatment at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital (USTH), Manila.

When she was brought down to the USTH, Manila, the doctors confirmed that she has ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA and immediately recommended treatment as she contracted pneumonia and thereafter had to undergo 7 days of chemotherapy due to the aggressiveness of her cancer.

Purpose of the Fund Raising:

The treatment of cancer (acute leukemia) is very costly in the Philippines. During the initial treatment of Doreen, her family pulled all their resources together to pay for her hospital bills including her chemotherapy, blood transfusion and other medical needs that has to be bought outside the hospital. Her insurance from the government isn't enough to cover all her expenses  and she has no other insurance. This hospital bill is a very huge amount for an average earner in the Philippines like Doreen. These drained the family’s financial resources. Hence, the setting up of this GoFundMe.

The Treatment Plan
For the next steps after the first chemotherapy, the medical team strongly recommend that Doreen undergo another round of chemotherapy(consolidation) followed by a bone marrow treatment noting that her cancer is an aggressive type of cancer. Accordingly, she has a bigger chance of getting back to normal life than taking the chemotherapy treatment plan only. These procedures will amount to almost Four Million Philippine Peso (PhP4M). This amount will cover her hospital bills at the UST Hospital for her chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant at the St. Luke’s Hospital at Global City, Pasay City, Philippines. She is currently consulting her doctors for follow-up and monitoring to get clearance for her next round of chemotherapy (consolidation) that is scheduled 1st week of February, 2020. The procedure for bone marrow transplant will follow after her chemotherapy session. Although these procedures are physically and emotionally draining, Doreen is determined to fight this battle with her family by her side. Her strength helped her overcome the after effects of her first chemotherapy. She is determined to fight this battle and win against this cancer!

All your donations will go to the hospital bills for the treatment procedures and medical care of Doreen. Her sisters will alternately take their leave of absence from their respective work in the province to accompany and take care of her during the clearance consultations, chemotherapy, bone marrow treatment and weekly follow-up check-up sessions after the transplant. Your donations will help so much to calm down Doreen and her family who can’t sleep thinking about where to get the funds to pay for her treatment. It will assure her and her family knowing that your donations will provide them with the financial security. This will help them focus on the preparations (regaining her physical strength after her first round of chemotherapy last December, 2019) for the next round of chemotherapy and the bone marrow transplant.

Doreen has been consulting her doctors for the last two and a half weeks for monitoring and follow-up together with medicine intakes. She will have her 2nd chemotherapy (consolidation) scheduled around 1st week of February, 2020. She will be admitted and treated in the hospital for a month. Following the chemotherapy will be the bone marrow transplant at St. Luke’s hospital. This will require a month stay at the hospital. Following the transplant, Doreen will go for weekly follow-up and monitoring consultations until she will be declared fit to go back to work.

From the bottom of our hearts , THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR HELP❤️❤️❤️..We are very grateful and very much appreciative of your donations to help Doreen go back to her normal life.
