Dorota Habib / Dorota Wilk Benefit

Donation protected
Dorota Habib also known as Dorothy Wilk from Watertown, CT was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on March 9th, 2018. For those of you who don't know, Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The word “acute” denotes the disease’s rapid progression. Its called Myeloid because it affects a group of white blood cells called myeloid cells. The Myeloid cells develop into various types of mature blood cells such as red and white blood cells and platelets. Once the marrow cell undergoes a leukemic change, the leukemia cells may grow and survive better than normal cells. Over time, the leukemia cells crowd out or suppress the development of normal cells. The rate at which leukemia progresses and how the cells replace the normal blood and marrow cells are different with each type of leukemia.

This was life changing news for Dorota and her family. She has been admitted 3 times for treatments and chemotherapy at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven. She had a bone marrow biopsy several weeks ago and was scheduled for a transplant on June 7th. However, she had a minor setback with a sinus infection and virus which has postponed this procedure.

Dorota is a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She is a very strong independent woman who has a very long road ahead of her. She refuses to give up and will fight like hell to overcome this hiccup she has been dealt. She has been blessed with such loving family and friends and is surrounded with love and support. Her daughter Kathryn and Dorota’s boyfriend Joeseph Fucci, an MEP Coordinator at O&G Industries have been by her side every step of the way and are now caring for her at home.

Dorota has also been lucky enough to have health insurance to cover most of her expenses. However, with the long recovery and unpredictable outcome of her chemo treatments come unpredictable costs.

Dorota, Kathryn, and Joe would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful visits and gifts received during her inpatient Chemo at Smilow. The generosity and thoughtfulness has been greatly appreciated. As most of you know Dorota is a very independent person who doesn't want to ask for help but with her out of work and uncertainty of future treatments, current bills, and out of pocket expenses we are hoping to raise funds to help support her during such a difficult time. We would like her only focus to be on recovery and not stressing about financial expenses.

Any funds not used to support Dorota’s treatment and care during this time will be directly donated to support other Leukemia patients battling cancer.

Thank you for your support and generosity!
