Hi, my name Scott, and my friend Dorothy Gaines needs your help. Dorothy, who suffers from Stage 5 chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and severe hypertension, is about to be evicted and her electricity cut off if she cannot raise the needed funds. She also needs to make repairs to her car that's almost 25 years old.
Today (Dec. 23) is the 22nd Anniversary of President Clinton commuting Dorothy’s 19+ year prison sentence after she served over 6 years in a federal penitentiary. She believes her COPD was caused by her time in prison. Dorothy, like many other women, was imprisoned for drug conspiracy because of a boyfriend’s drug dealing. His testimony was the only evidence against her.
Life has been very hard for Dorothy and her children since her release. Her 2 daughters and son were devastated and traumatized. Her son has been in prison for the last 10 years. Dorothy now helps care for his daughter and other grandkids. Besides her kidney disease, Dorothy is dealing with the aftermath of 2 COVID infections, and Hypertension Stage 3, Hypertensive Crisis.
