The inspiration behind Dot. By Bugg…
Honoring family traditions…
In the fall of 1958 two sisters -- my great, great aunts Dee and Sarah-- spent the day volunteering at their church rummage sale and noticed boxes and boxes of donated costume jewelry. Inspiration struck and sparked an idea among the two -- to start making their own holiday ornaments. Sourcing different materials from local yard and garage sales, the sisters bought every piece of jewelry and unusual fabrics they could get their hands on. This idea caught the fancy of other family members and the tradition officially started. The ladies would get together and swap ideas and supplies over lunch and Wassail Punch. As they perfected their craft, word began to spread and eventually they were selling these gems to Lord and Taylor in New York.
Fast forward to 2020... the pandemic hit and I packed up and headed out to the burbs to quarantine with my parents. It was during that time that my passion project really began. I began taking apart old ornaments my aunts had made and using their patterns to come up with my own creations. I started giving them as gifts. The feedback was well received – everyone loved them!
Having a background in design and merchandising, the business side of my brain kicked in and soon enough I was reaching out to various contacts to help get my business into gear.
My first run is currently being produced as I write this and I am asking for small donations to get it funded!
Any donation over $50.00 will receive one of my ornaments in time for the holidays! Simply include your address where you would like the ornament sent! These beautiful ornaments are meant to be handed down from generation to generation. Most of the original balls are still being used today – 64 years after their creation!
