Just before the holidays one of our own Furever Family members were in a horrific accident. This accident shut down the entire highway, they were injured, their children were injured and Tango our special southern gentleman was injured as well.
When I met this family they had stopped by to pick up an item we freecycled to the community. It was on that day that they first met tango our big 80 pound lovable kitty boy who had recently been saved from unknown history in Arkansas. They ended up playing with him and chatting with us for quite some time about our rescue efforts and learning about our mission. Soon after we heard from them again letting us know that they just couldn’t get big old Tango out of their mind and that they would really like to consider adopting him. But Tango had just been taken by another family for trial. When Tango was returned by that family, the fourth family, I thought of the Dalske’s. I reached back out and they were so over the moon excited that they came the next day! After amazing meets and an even better trial I could tell what I was supposed to do and I offered Tango on a pick your fee for Tango as he is a special case and he’s meant gor you and I don’t want finances to be a barrier. Not only was this the right move for tango but boy did this rescue get the best adopters out of the deal. This family has continued to return for volunteering their boys come and play with our puppies regularly get their energy out and give them so much sweet love. He would never expect it from these great big young boys that they would be so soft and sensitive but they both are. In fact their one son even does Elvis impersonations at charity events they’re always trying to help in their community. They have taken dogs for a Bree foster an overnight and day trip rides. They really try to give back. They’re the type of family everybody wants to be friends with the type of people who would take the shirt off their own back to provide for someone who was cold. The type that really don’t deserve for major impact for bad things to happen to them. But something bad to happen and they need some help from us now. They would never ask they didn’t even want to tell me about the accident because they were so ashamed to admit that Tango had been hurt. Like many of us southeastern Pennsylvanians this family had a camping trailer that they kept on site at a campground which was their form of vacationing and getting away with their boys and just distressing a little with their family lots of fun family times. Tango of course was immediately invited on these adventures even in his first weekend with them. He was part of the costume contest at the campground and really beloved by everybody there too! As the current season came to an end this family loaded up their camper to bring it back for the winter season in storage.
On the way home a unprecedented disaster occurred. For some reason whether it was a strong wind gust something going on with the weight the camper began to sway after traveling 30 minutes down the highway. They were unable to regain control as the camper began whipping the truck back-and-forth jackknifing smacking into the median ultimately rolling several times and landing with the camper in front of the truck all of them upside down. The boys were able to crawl out with their father With the help of passerby’s who had stopped behind them as a whole turnpike screeched to a halt. Once the children were safely away from the wreckage their father climbed back in and cut out their mother who had woken to Tango’s scared eyes looking up at her. The truck was so crushed that she could barely squeeze her body through the hole to climb out. Once she was away dad began to completely panicking screeming where is our dog where is our dog! Mom shouted back he was in the seat with me And without a moments hesitation he do back into the wreckage only emerging once he had Tango in his arms. By this point emergency vehicles were beginning to arrive and urging this family to get in the ambulance and go with them for treatment. Mom and the boys were whisked to the ER but dad insisted on being escorted to the emergency vet immediately to take care of Tangos injuries. His face had been burned off on one side and he was pelleted with glass like little bullets all through his legs and torso. They got him straight to emergency and the next day and $2000 later Tango Was able to come home with his family needing still more return visits with her regular primary vet and weeks of medication and bandage wraps. Only after they ensured that Tango was OK did they take care of themselves. While they were not significantly injured all had glass cuts whiplash and other minor injuries associated with a serious car crash thank God some angels watching over them and everyone was wearing their seatbelts which is the only reason why they are OK. Tango really got the worst of it. Look at the wreckage imagine coming out with mainly scratches and some small breaks- it is a true miracle.
This family is recovering well and has been back to volunteer since the accident. I can’t tell you how grateful I am that they are OK. This leads to why I am reaching out to all of you today with the story not only to pull at your heartstrings but hopefully to make a difference. They only had liability insurance they are losing everything in this accident - their camper is totaled their truck is totaled but there were costs that none of us would ever have expected if this happened to one of us. The tow fee for removing their camper from the highway alone is $11,000. It took a crane to get it up and they will not let them enter the camper to get their possessions until the fee is paid. They have to reimburse the state for the damage to the medians on the turnpike. And who knows if there are any other fees she hasn’t mentioned that will come up in association with this accident. I know that the holidays just depleted everyone and that this year has been hard on a lot of us. But this family is a good family they are good people with big hearts and they deserve a little bit of help to start off 2021. Can we help recover some of the losses? At least Tango’s care? When I tell my adopters I am here for them for life I truly mean it and I would do anything I could to help these guys. If I had unlimited funds I wouldn’t be asking for your help but I don’t. So can we come together as a community and have a whole lot of people make it just a small donation to help this family! I believe in kindness and I believe we can do this!
