Dotty's battle against rare disorders
Donation protected
UPDATE: On July 26, 2022, Dotty James Erway was born to Alex and Bekah Erway. Bekah and Alex were aware that there may be some necessary interventions after discovering some abnormalities concerning Dotty’s brain in ultrasounds. Dotty was officially diagnosed with Semi-Lobar Holoprosencephaly - a rare and untreatable brain condition caused by a genetic deformity. This condition has longterm and often fatal side effects, but, because of the intercession of the Erway’s community, and God’s grace, thankfully Dotty’s diagnosis has proven to be mild.
Now, nearly two months into Dotty’s beautiful life, it has been found that Dotty is also facing a very rare autoimmune disorder called SCID (Severe Combined Immune Deficiency). It is the most severe form of immunodeficiency rendering Dotty’s immune system completely defenseless against any and all infection, virus, etc. This means a common cold, or minor infection could be life threatening. It will ultimately require a bone marrow transplant in order to cure this condition.
The team of physicians, immunologists, and geneticists assigned to Dotty’s case have found that Dotty also suffers from a very rare genetic mutation called Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome. This syndrome not only causes these immunological problems but also puts Dotty at a high risk of developing malignancies in the future, as well as creating more challenges for her development.
Alex and Bekah are sincerely grateful for the love, support, prayers, and continued effort to lift up their family in light of this news and the challenge it has placed upon their young family. They are continuing to fight for Dotty’s health and safety, as well as raise their other two young children. The bone marrow transplant Dotty faces will require several weeks (4-6) potentially longer, of hospitalization, and will require Dotty to be in isolation for the majority of that time. Any and every donation supports the challenges that the Erway family face and is used in every effort to ensure the health and safety of Dotty’s future. Thank you for your love and support.
