Hello friends I have the most amazing update to share with you. On February 24, 2023 Kim had her double lung transplant. Organ donors save lives! A big heartfelt thank you goes out to the family that was gracious enough to give her the gift of life.
Dr. Lynch and his team from University of Michigan Hospital performed a 13 hour surgery and Kim came out like a champ. We call her the bionic woman because she now has a metal plate in her chest with eight bolts. She worked very hard in the hospital with physical therapy, walking, and dealing with the excruciating amount of pain. The nurses took such good care of her. Can’t say enough good things about the staff at U of M. Kim spirits were always high because she knew she was given a second chance. She refers to herself as Kim 2.0. We laugh, because that is just her sense of humor which is got her through all of this.
She is home now and her brother Bill and sister-in-law Kelly moved here from Dallas to take care of her when she was released. Her dogs had to be boarded for a month which was really hard for her because we all know how much she loves her three fur babies. She’s in physical therapy, three times a week and improving daily. Currently, she had a bronchoscopy with biopsies, and it showed no organ rejection, no fungal or infection! She’s not out of the clear because rejection can set an up to 6 to 8 months after the surgery. She still has a long way to go with recovery, but she’s very optimistic that everything is going to be OK. Your donations have helped greatly with her medical expenses. But as we know, Kim is going to have to have a lot more expense coming her way. She will be out of work for several months. All donations are received with much gratitude and appreciation.
