Doug Blake Memorial Fund

UPDATE:
The dedication of the memorial to Doug Blake, HHS Class of 1968, will take place this Saturday, 10/2, at 1:30 p.m. before the HHS vs. Lenape Valley football game at Morrison Field. Please join Doug's family and friends in honoring Doug. Speakers include Jack Hurley, co-captain (with Doug) of the HHS football team; Ed Palmer, fellow wrestler; and Tom Wicki, baseball teammate. They will recall Doug's athletic career and share personal stories about Doug. It should be a wonderful event as Hackettstown honors one of its favorite sons.


The Committee to Memorialize Douglas A. Blake submitted a proposal to the Town of Hackettstown, NJ and the Hackettstown Board of Education to honor Douglas A. Blake, HHS Class of 1968, who passed away on March 12, 2021. Doug has been recognized as "the top all-around athlete Hackettstown has ever produced" and was beloved as an inspiration, mentor and friend. The Committee proposed naming Hackettstown's Alumni Field after Doug, naming the scoreboard at Morrison Field after Doug, erecting a monument to Doug at Morrison Field, and dedicating the memorial at an event in Fall 2021. On June 9, 2021, the proposal was formally approved. The Committee is seeking funds to cover the costs of memorializing Doug and thanks you for donating toward honoring one of Hackettstown's most revered legends. Funds received in excess of our fundraising goal will be used to establish a scholarship in Doug's name for a college bound HHS senior who excels in both academics and athletics and who, like Doug, embodies the values of sportsmanship, community and service. DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE to our fundraising efforts, the Committee has agreed to increase our fundraising goal to $50,000. Achieving this goal will guarantee the establishment of a scholarship in Doug's name, and that the scholarship will be available to a deserving graduatuing HHS student for many years to come.
