Doug Meijer operation fundraiser

The RiseMMA community and close friends are raising money to assist one of our coaches, Doug Meijer.

Doug is a 2nd degree black belt in BJJ, under John Will, who trains and coaches at RiseMMA. He is a career martial artist also achieiving a black belt in Goju Ryu Karate. He has competed all over Australia & New Zealand in Karate, Kickboxing, BJJ and had a very promising MMA career, though he preferred to focus on his family and coaching.

Over the years Doug has trained and taught many people from all over Melbourne. He was one of the original pioneers in BJJ, starting at the Australasian Martial Arts gym in Kensington, then Hangar 4 at Essendon Airport, Dominance MMA and these days he is a cornerstone of the RiseMMA community in Altona.

For those who know the great man, they will know he’s had an ongoing hip injury for many years and it's got to the point he now must have surgery - a full hip replacement. The cost is over $25k and Doug will be off work for some time to recover.

This fundraiser is to help Doug with the costs of surgery. We are reaching out to his friends, people he’s trained and taught over the years to help. Any money you can donate to help Doug would be so amazing.

This is a call out to help someone that's given so much over the years to the sport, family and friends. The risk is if he doesn't get the operation soon he will have permanent damage to his back and knee.
