In memory of Douglas Blackhurst

It is with a heavy heart we share the devastating news of the sudden and unexpected passing of Doug Blackhurst. A father to 3 beautiful children Rosie (23), Fraser (22) and Ruby (18), a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend to many.

Doug passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday 17th of April 2024, tragically ending his own life, after many years battling with mental illness. His friends and family selflessly supported him as much as they could, until he sadly lost his battle to continue fighting the demons that plagued him.

Doug was a local business owner and contributed greatly to the community, through his work and sponsorship with Slade Point Rugby Union. During his children’s junior playing years he was also heavily involved with Mackay Rugby Union. Doug was the first to put his hand up to help anyone in need. His unmatched humor and endless generosity will linger forever in those that knew him.

A loss of any kind is devastating and difficult, however for children to loss heir father then to be faced with the unexpected and unplanned expenses of a funeral, takes this from heartbreaking to tragic.

This page has been set up to try and help ease the financial burden in this very difficult time. Your generous donations will be used to help Rosie, Fraser and Ruby provide their dad the send off he deserves, with a beautiful funeral service.
