Douglas Sykes, EHS; a Great Soul; a Servant Leader

My name is Jerry DeRosa, the former Director of EHS at Tug Hill Operating. On behalf of our team and the several folks who reached out to me in the past several days, we ask for your donations to support Doug's family. If you know Doug, you know that your support can be put to good use and is appreciated.

We offer to Tammy and Doug's entire family and loved ones our sincerest condolences and sympathies in this tragic time. Doug has made a permanent positive impact on many lives and we hope this fund can help in some small way.

Doug was a beloved member of our environmental & safety team at Tug Hill for the past several years. Simply stated, he was a special person who made people feel seen and heard, and like a part of a family. Doug was truly an exemplary credit to the EHS profession; as he was always eager to be onsite to mentor, coach, and to lend a hand whenever/wherever needed. Doug was always early to work and frequently filled in for others on weekends and holidays or other times of need. That’s just the way he rolled. And during incidents, Doug could be relied upon to be present, no matter the duration, serving as a key team member to provide support and value-added input drawn from his considerable experience. Other than his love for God, family, southern cooking, and biscuits & gravy, it was clear that Doug loved his work. He derived real joy from interacting with the field crews and he cared deeply for all those he encountered and watched over. His co-workers and peers describe Doug as: a “servant leader”; a “genuine human being that the good Lord placed on this earth”; a “great soul”; the “kindest, nicest person I’ve ever met”; and someone “loved like a brother”. The great comments just go on and on. So, while many of us, former Tug Hill and contractors alike, will miss Doug dearly, the lasting impression of his kind, caring, and graceful spirit, and his ability to find and practice gratitude in every situation, will live on in all of us.
