Doug's medical and living expense
Donation protected
Hi everyone, this is Philip (Doug’s brother), Lane (his sister), and his daughters Ananda (20) and Maya (18). We are writing an open letter to all of our friends and family we know through this gofundme page.
Doug really needs your help. For those of you who are not aware, Doug was admitted to the hospital in Jacksonville, FL about 3 weeks ago. He was suffering liver failure and an acute bout of pancreatitis. At that instant, the doctors really didn’t think he had a lot of time, maybe 3 months tops. However, prayer changes things, and we greatly appreciate all the prayers and love you have sent our way.
Doug was released from the hospital this past Friday following a “bounce” of his liver activity as it started to function again. All of his numbers are trending in the right direction, but he still has a long way to go in order to be healthy again. We are encouraged that he recognizes the need to change his life. We are also excited that we have a path to spending the next 20 or more years with Doug as a very different and sober brother and Dad. A person we all love very much.
Many of you have asked: “how can I help?” So here is the situation: Doug cannot physically work, and as such has no income and no health insurance. He is terminally ill and will have to undergo a liver transplant in the next 12 to 18 months. He has applied for disability, and has been told it is certain he will qualify, but as you know, that often takes up to 6 months to start. His monthly medications alone cost around $1500, and his monthly living expenses around $1700. That's around $3200/month that he has no way to pay, and is an addred stress to an already difficult situation. As Doug’s brother, I am funding the costs of his monthly health insurance, so that is covered - though it will cover very little of the expenses for medication. Doug very much needs our love, our support, and our financial assistance.
The need for your help is urgent. We have set up this gofundme page to reach out to everyone who knows and loves Doug – and even many who may not know him, in hopes that they will jump in and lend a hand. If you can donate, please do so knowing that it is funding a next and better chapter in Doug’s life. If you can’t, we certainly understand and appreciate your prayers and support. Please share this and pass it along.
With Much Love and Appreciation,
Philip, Lane, Ananda, and Maya
