DOWN UNDER 4ED

Sam Harrison and Henry Bradford (Pottsville, NSW) have organised an incredible bike ride to raise money for their close friend Ed Slater after his recent diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (ALS).

Sam and Ed met playing rugby at Leicester Tigers in the UK, and Henry and Ed met at university 15 years ago, together they have been friends for over 10 years.

The charity bike ride starts on 24th October 2022 from Byron Bay, cycling over 1000km to Ed’s former club, Eastern Rugby Club in Sydney, over the course of 5 days. Ed played here when he lived in Sydney from 2007-2010 before joining Leicester Tigers. Joining Sam and Henry are a number of Ed’s friends and former rugby team mates who he played with at Eastern Suburbs Sydney, Leicester Tigers and Gloucester Rugby. 

MND is a degenerative disease of the nervous system, which leads to muscle wastage and loss of function. It affects limbs, speech and the respiratory system. 

We aim to raise money and awareness of MND in support of Ed and his family. The money raised will help Ed make adaptations to their home and help fund equipment necessary as the disease progresses. 

Funds will be transferred to Ed and his family via Ed’s good friend Henry Bradford who has access to Australian and English bank accounts, which will be necessary for getting the money raised back to Ed in the UK. 

The funds will be used for a combination of equipment and home adaptions. A portion of the money will be donated by Ed to his chosen MND and disability charities. These are : My Name’5 Doddie Foundation (who fund worldwide research for MND) the Matt Hampson Foundation (who support people living with disabilities from spinal cord injuries to people living with MND) and the MND Association (who offer funding and practical support to families effected by MND).
