Downstate Residents' PPE
Donation protected
Dear prospective donors
Thank you for taking the time to look into this campaign.
My name is Charles Kim (PGY3 IM resident physician), and I am representing the voice of 201 Internal Medicine residents, 100 Emergency Medicine/EM/IM residents, and 95 Pediatric residents of SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Currently, SUNY Downstate has been converted to a COVID-19 center, and we will soon reach our maximum hospital capacity.
As we are fighting the war against Coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19), we are quickly running out of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators (N95, KN95, FFP2, or better), gowns, coveralls, headnets, and booties to ensure adequate protection for ourselves. Without this necessary equipment, resident physicians are exposed to contracting the virus from their patients, resulting in fewer available resources to help attend to the growing number of patients.
That is why we are seeking any available monetary support to fund the purchase of PPE and additional testing kits. Although the local supply for PPE is limited, we are trying to source supplies from other countries and implementing a thorough vetting processes to ensure the quality of such materials.
The funds will be sent to a COVID-19 Release Relief Fund sponsored by the Department of Medicine of SUNY Downstate, headed by Dr. Moro Salifu (Chair).
If you have spare PPE readily available, you can also reach out to me directly via email through GoFundMe for necessary details. Any amount of help assists us in helping our patients.
