Downswing Short Film

My name is Samantha Murdock Hussey and I am currently a student at the University of Texas in Austin, where I am studying both English and Radio-Television-Film. I'm raising money for my upcoming short film Downswing, for which I am both the writer and director.

 

Downswing is a tense thriller set during a poker night. As this game progressively gets stranger, the stakes rise, and a good hand will not be enough to help you. SEE BOTTOM OF PAGE FOR MORE STORY INFO!

 

This short film will be shot over the course of four days in late July. It will feature 6 actors and a crew of 15-16 people working on set. This is a passion project of mine (it will be my directorial debut!) and I intend on submitting this short film to numerous festivals throughout the United States. However, this film cannot be made without your help and support!

 

I have an amazingly talented crew lined up and ready to make this project but I need to meet my fundraising goal and I cannot do that without you. All the money that I raise goes directly into the making of this short film. The budget covers the cost of equipment rentals, production design, marketing and festival fees, craft services to feed my crew during shooting dates, and contingecy expenses factored in. My cast and crew are all volunteering their time and efforts to help me but we all need the help and support from you so we can have the necessary materials to create this short film.

EXPANDED STORYLINE: Lucy is invited to attend a poker night as her friend Mallory’s guest but is immediately the outsider of this strangely close knit group of friends. After meeting the host, Abel, and interacting with the rest of the interesting players Lucy initially feels welcomed but not quite accepted. After not abiding by Abel’s way of playing, she soon realizes that this game has higher stakes than expected and she will have to face the consequences of not playing by his rules.
