Max Silverman’s Eagle Scout Project
Hi. My name is Max Silverman. I am a Life Scout in Boy Scouts of America. I am working on my Eagle Scout project, which will test all of the skills I have developed in my years as a Scout. It will require me to design, plan, and lead a group of people in a project to help a community organization. Only 8% of scouts complete their Eagle Scout project.
My project benefits O'Seas Conservation Foundation a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. You may have seen Dr. Craig O’Connell , its founder, on Shark Week. O’Seas uses Baited Remote Underwater Video cameras (BRUVs) to attract sharks and film shark behavior underwater. The BRUVs, which are made primarily of PVC pipe, have one section that holds bait to attract the sharks, and another that is fitted with a remote camera and lights. A buoy and long rope are attached to the PVC unit so that the whole thing can be dropped down to the desired spot and then retrieved easily. Look at the picture to see one!
Unfortunately, last year O'Seas had several BRUVS stolen. To help O'Seas, my Eagle Scout project is to lead both other Scouts and adults in making 4 new BRUVS for Dr. Craig that will help the research of sharks and other marine animals. I need to raise at least $1,000 to buy the materials and equipment make the BRUVs and I am hoping to raise $5,000 because any extra money will go to the O’Seas Research Foundation to help sharks and the ocean.
