When Covid hit, Ridgestone Physical had to close overnight.
After years of hard work and overcoming a life-threatening brain tumour, I’d built Ridgestone into a thriving sports therapy business, helping outdoor and extreme sports enthusiasts across Scotland. But like many businesses, the pandemic forced me to shut it all down.
It wasn’t just a setback for me – it was the end of a dream I’d fought hard to realise. In 2015, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour whilst retraining in therapy. What started as eyesight issues turned into an emergency surgery, followed by six weeks of radiotherapy, and a full year off my work. But despite it all, I kept training and I qualified!
It didn’t stop there, however. On my qualifying weekend, I got a call asking me to attend a meeting at my work that Monday, one week before my official return. This turned out to be a departmental meeting, at which all our jobs were put under Consultation. I lost my job in October 2016, and with the help of a healthy redundancy package, I had Ridgestone Physical up and running by December 2016.
Everything was going well, and with your help, we served the local community and beyond – from athletes pushing their limits to professionals managing everyday pain. But in 2021, after fighting through the challenges of Covid, the tumour came back. And this time, it was much more aggressive.
The doctors didn’t expect me to survive beyond five years. But I refused to give up. After another surgery and more treatment I defied the odds, and today, I’m living proof of that resilience.
Now, I’m ready to rebuild Ridgestone Physical. My goal isn’t just to restart – it’s to build something bigger and better. I want to serve more people, create multiple clinic spaces, and grow Ridgestone into a business that can thrive on its own. But to make this happen, I need to ask for your help.
There is no healthy redundancy package this time, and after 3+ years on benefits, I need to ask for your support. This will allow me to cover the basics – making uniforms (and bring back the kilt!), renting a clinic space, restocking essential supplies, setting up a new website, and more. Every contribution will help me restart Ridgestone Physical and build it into something even more impactful, for you and for everyone who needs the services we provide.
I’ve already defied the odds twice, and with your help, I can do it again. Your support will directly help me reopen Ridgestone, giving you access to the therapy and care you deserve, whether you’re an athlete or needing help managing pain.
Thank you for your help, and for being part of this journey with me.
