Help Dad with Medical Bills

My name is Maria Harrah. I'm from Jackson County, WV. I'm raising money for my father, Steve Poyet for his upcoming medical bills. Daddy just recently retired as a preacher. He has dedicated his life to serving our Lord. On Thursday evening (February 10, 2022), he and Mom were watching T.V. and about to settle in for the night when a car pulled into their driveway. Dad went out, thinking it was my husband in a different car. He instead came face to face with a man who got out of the car and attacked him. Mom heard the shouting and set off their alarm and called 911. The man took off on foot into the woods near their home, leaving his car in their driveway. (Police caught him and he's currently is in jail.)

Dad is in ICU at CAMC General. He has a broken lower orbital socket, a lung contusion, ribs 3-7 broken on the left side, and Rib 2 broken on the right side. His T9 is broken, and there are loose ligaments on each side, so he will be needing spinal surgery to prevent paralysis. Surgery will be Monday or Tuesday, and doctors say he will be in the hospital in recovery for two weeks. I am not sure what the bills will be, but I have a feeling it is going to be an insane amount.

Dad would never hurt a fly and has always given anyone whatever they need. I just don't understand why or how this could happen. Mom and Dad need prayers above all. If by some miracle we receive more than his medical bills and expenses, the excess money will be paid forward to someone else's medical bills.

 

UPDATE: Today (Feb 14) is Surgery day! 5p.m. if there aren't emergency traumas that bump him, He will have hardware placed around his T9 to keep the loose ligaments in place and prevent paralysis. Prayers for him, Mom, and the hospital staff would be most appreciated!

Dad is out of the hospital and has set up a bank account specifically for the bills and expenses he will incur from this incident. All funds received will go straight to it.
