Please read Amit's Obituary-
Dr. Amit Shanker Malkani passed away in a tragic accidental drowning while vacationing in the Maldives with his family on June 20, 2023 while rescuing his nephew in the ocean. He was an impeccable family physician, brother, son, and uncle.
He received his undergraduate degree from NYU and studied for his Master’s Degree at Harvard University. He completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Touro University and his family medicine residency at York Hospital in Pennsylvania. He went on to become an attending family medicine physician, specializing in wound care and osteopathic manipulative medicine. He has worked with the United States Coast Guard over the last 5 years as a civilian physician and was known for developing a program to rehabilitate injured Corpsman with water therapy and physical therapy to improve outcomes. He always said, “you must find joy in what you are doing. My joy is going to work early and helping the Corpsman rehab in the water. Pure medicine.” He also has been one of the very few deaf physicians in the United States to practice medicine.
Amit always enjoyed the finer things in life and celebrated living with travel, tennis, swimming, scuba diving, rock climbing, trying new foods and restaurants, having an adventurous spirit, and spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by his dear mother Dr. Raj S. Malkani and dedicated father Shanker D. Malkani, his loving sister Dr. Sona M. Garg, and brother in law Dr. Manish Garg, and his nieces Arya, Savi, and Moxa Garg, and nephew Rohan Garg.
He will be missed dearly and his humble, honest, witty, intelligent, fun, kind, and thoughtful nature will be celebrated by all who were lucky enough to know him.
