Important Update: Closing of the Fundraiser for Dr. Benjamin Mauck’s Family

As we enter the holiday season—a time for family, gratitude, and giving—our hearts are heavy with the reality of what our family has lost. Amid this sorrow, we are reminded to cherish the blessings that remain: Gweneth celebrated her 3rd birthday, and Sebastian his 5th. We watched as Sebastian played his first soccer game and Gweneth proudly participated in her first gymnastics class. These moments, so small yet so profound, underscore what is missing: their father, Ben.

Dr. Benjamin Mauck, known to many as a compassionate and skilled surgeon, was taken from us in a senseless act of violence while doing what he loved—helping others. As his assistant warned him not to see the patient that day, Ben's unwavering response was, “Everyone deserves to be seen and taken care of.” He walked into that room as a healer and never came out. His dedication to his patients and his profession cost him his life.

For Gweneth and Sebastian, the loss is immeasurable. There will be no more birthdays celebrated with their daddy. No hugs on Christmas morning. No guiding hand as they take their first steps into school, their first dance, or their first college class. Rhiannon, his wife, now shoulders a burden no one should bear alone: raising their children and securing their future without their father and provider.

Ben's story is a stark reminder of how fragile life is. He spent his life giving to others, never imagining he wouldn’t return home to his family that day. As a family, we cannot change what has happened, but we can ensure that Gweneth and Sebastian never have to face uncertainty about their education, security, or future.
