For most of you reading this Charles Novell is no stranger, in fact, he is probably a beloved family member or dear friend. For those of you who know him no introduction in necessary, and for those of you who don’t know him personally, no introduction I could ever write could adequately describe who he is, especially to those who know and love him.
Dr. Novell is an encourager to everyone he meets and has a courageous, contagious faith in God. He is a graduate of the world famous Cincinnati Conservatory of Music from which he holds an earned doctorate in Music. He has been involved in Gospel Music as a songwriter, arranger, recording producer, and performer for several decades in addition to his work as a worship pastor and public school teacher. He is also the director of the Charles Novell School of Music. He has been faithful in using his gifts and talents for the glory of God and to spread the message of the Gospel.
In 2006 Dr. Novell was diagnosed Parkinson’s disease. He continued to play, sing, and teach gospel music, however in recent months Parkinson’s has robbed him of the physical ability to continue much of his life’s work. Since his diagnoses, his family and friends have prayed for healing, for strength, and for direction in fighting this insidious disease that continues to rob him of strength and quality of life.
However, we believe the miracle we have prayed for is on the horizon. Through a student at the school we found out about a doctor in Nashville who is doing stem cell therapy for the treatment of Parkinson’s. The stem cells for this treatment will be derived from Dr. Novell’s very own stem cells taken from a sample of fat extracted from his abdomen. The stem cells are then injected into the spine. As the injected stem cells find their way to the brain they work to create and replace lost dopamine. Dopamine is the chemical that Parkinson’s attacks. The influx of dopamine will effectively end the progression of the disease, and may even reverse many of the symptoms which have drastically diminished his quality of life.
Unfortunately, insurance will not pay for this treatment; nor will it cover the costs associated with the treatment such as the important process of clinical rehabilitation. With the expressed permission and assistance from the Novell’s, I created this online fundraising drive so that we, his family and friends, can pull together and help get Dr. Novell the treatment that gives him the best chance at regaining his physical health. We need to raise at least $25,000 to cover the cost of treatment, rehabilitation, and costs associated with time spent traveling to and staying in Nashville for treatments. It is my goal to raise more, so that any aftercare is covered as well.
Because they have faith that God will provide, they have already begun the treatments, and Dr. Novell is already seeing results. We will post updates as they are available. His next treatment in Nashville is in November. The treatments require payment at the time of service, so there is urgency in our response. Please consider donating to this fundraising campaign and as always keep Dr. Charles Novell and family, in your prayers. Thank You.
