Dr. Chekwas Ukefi Obasi

Late Dr. Chekwas Ukefi Obasi, who until his untimely death was a Surgical Trainee in the London deanery. He sadly passed on in his sleep, the cause of death still being investigated by the coroners. However, he developed an auto-immune reaction to covid-19 booster which prevented him from working over the last 7 months. It is yet to be confirmed if this was related to his untimely death or not.

Dr Chekwas would be fondly remembered as a fun-loving, adventurous, kind, intelligent man who had a great passion for fitness and music. Additionally, he actively contributed to our NDUK platform, enriching our discussions and interactions.

He is very well-loved by his friends, and colleagues and is survived by four siblings. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his entire family and friends during this difficult time. Being an orphan, he has been solely responsible for his younger siblings till his death. One of his siblings is currently in the UK for her master's degree being sponsored by Dr. Chekwas. His inability to work leading up to his death meant She is left with a debt of the balance of her school fees despite already concluding her studies, she has not been given her certificate while owing fees. Also, she has been given a notice by the landlord to evacuate the property where she lived with the late Dr. Chekwas.

The ongoing challenges include:
1. Planning of the burial as he is the sole breadwinner of his family and support will be needed from the NDUK community to facilitate this.

2. Support for the sister in terms of accommodation, school fees payment and possibly a job with sponsorship.

This fundraiser is organised by NDUK, an association of Nigerian Doctors in the UK, this is a support network for Doctors of Nigerian Origin. The late Dr. Chekwas was a highly valued member of our organisation.

Funds raised would be used to make burial arrangements and also support his family in this difficult time. Once a named beneficiary has been appointed ( amongst his siblings), they would be added as beneficiary on this fundraiser and would be responsible for making payments for all burial arrangements.
