Dr. Dennis Benavidez Matamoros is an incredibly talented young veterinarian from Honduras. The Equitarian Initiative first met Dr. Dennis as a student of the Universidad Nacional de Agricultura where he quickly became known for both his veterinary skills, and his ability to handle and gentle the most frightened, aggressive, and untrained horses. Since graduating, Dr. Dennis has started his own mixed animal practice in Honduras, and has continued to work with both the Equitarian Initiative and our partners at World Horse Welfare, where he has developed a keen interest in farriery and equine podiatry.
In January, 2017, Dr. Dennis joined the Equitarian Initiative at our annual workshop in Costa Rica where he studied under renown farrier, Paul Dorris. Recognizing his talent, enthusiasm and leadership potential, Mr. Dorris has generously invited Dr. Dennis to attend a six-week farrier course at Arkansas Horseshoer School. Additionally, Dr. Dennis has been invited to shadow AAEP Board member, Dr. Tracy Turner to continue his education in the areas of podiatry and lameness.
With your help, we can ensure that Dr. Dennis will participate in this unique opportunity to advance his professional education and improve the health and well-being of equids in the developing world! All donations will help fund his airfare, expenses in the US and a small stipend to support his family in Honduras while he is away. Please join us in supporting Dr. Dennis and the underserved working animals he treats in Central America!
