Dr. Eithne Walls Research Fund

On 1st June 2022 it will be 13 years since we lost my amazing sister Eithne so tragically, alongside her friends Jane Deasy and Aisling Butler.

Not a day goes by when my family do not think of Eithne and her friends and we continue to be inspired by each of them every day.

The June bank holiday weekend is usually a day when many of Eithne’s family, friends and colleagues get together to run the Dublin mini marathon together and raise vital funds for the Eithne Walls Research Fund. Hopefully we can all reunite next year, but for this year I’ll be running solo and I have set myself a different challenge.

As well as running the Dublin mini marathon on 5th June, I have spent the past 4 months training for Trail Marathon Wales, a full 26.2 miles of running over mountainous forest terrain!

Every mile of my training has been filled with thoughts of Eithne, and I know she will be with me on the big day pushing me along and dragging me up the hills.

Please sponsor me and make the effort even more meaningful for me, but mostly so that you can help Eithne do what she always did best, and make people feel better.

The Eithne Walls Research Fund provides much needed support for the work of the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Research Foundation and keeps the memory of Eithne very much alive in a way she would have approved of – supporting research for the prevention and treatment of eye and ear disease.

Each year, the Research Foundation holds the Eithne Walls Research Meeting. Trainee doctors are given the opportunity to present their work to their peers. This is key to continuing their work to advance education and development. Trainees who participate have the opportunity to be awarded the Eithne Walls Research Medal.
