In Loving Memory of Dr. Kathy Schwab

Our dear friend Dr. Kathy Schwab passed away on May 29th after a months-long series of hospitalizations. This fundraiser is being organized by Kathy's friends at Huston-Tillotson University to help cover funeral expenses as well as the medical expenses from her hospital stays. All funds go directly to Kathy's husband to help offset these costs.
Kathy's death is a devastating loss in so many ways. She taught at Huston-Tillotson for over 40 years. She was a Professor of Biology and also a Department Chair, first of the Biological Sciences Department and then of the Natural Sciences Department when the University grew. Kathy touched the lives of her students and her colleagues with her kindness, honesty, and dedication. She was a great champion for students and paid special attention to mentoring junior faculty. Many owe their starts in science to Kathy. She was a dedicated science educator, a warm colleague, a passionate advocate for students, and a great friend. She devoted her life to making the world better through education and through her decades of work, she shaped the science program at Huston-Tillotson. Her generous spirit and passion for science shone though all that she did. We also remember Kathy as a dedicated birder and naturalist and a loving wife and companion to Jerry. We all miss her very much. Campus will not be the same without her.
Kathy developed an illness mid-February, and underwent treatment at home and in the hospital for several weeks before being hospitalized in early April. She then remained in the hospital, ultimately in the ICU, from that time until her death. So we know that the medical costs are significant and hope that this fundraiser will help Jerry with these expenses.
