Dr. Kelly Keeney

Hello everyone.

Some of you are already aware of Dr. Keeney’s recent breast cancer diagnosis. For others getting this message, I’m sure this is very sad news. She was diagnosed several weeks ago and has been undergoing biopsy’s, MRIs, and has a double mastectomy scheduled October 9th.

It has taken me some time to get her to consent to me sending out this “gofundme” page as each of you know, she is a strong, proud, and private soul. With that said, the financial impact of this surgery, because of her high out of pocket maximum with her insurance, and the forthcoming lost income, which is required for her recovery (recovery time is 6-8 weeks in total), is going to be an extremely difficult burden for her family to absorb. Difficult to the extent that without some financial assistance, it may result in her having to uproot her home and family and relocate her veterinary practice out of state to a more affordable location other than Boulder. For me, personally, this would be the most devastating blow as her care for my dog, Cricket, is undeniably one of the reasons she is alive and healthy today.

The estimated out of pocket need (per above) to get her through the surgery and through recovery is going to be roughly $30,000 - thus the goal I’ve placed on this page. This is assuming the current scope of surgery discussed with her surgeon yesterday stays the same. If different surgical and/or cosmetic decisions are made over the next week or so, surgery will be longer and recovery time will be longer resulting in greater out of pocket costs.

Dr. Keeney is strong. Dr. Keeney is resilient. Dr. Keeney is selfless. She has given SO much to all our fur babies over the past years and has and will continue to go above and beyond in her care for each pet in her practice. This page is not intended for any of you to feel obligated to contribute financially but I have already been asked by many of her clients how they can help and know that many more of you will be reaching out and truly, this “gofundme” page is the best way to help her and take the stress of the financial hardship and it’s impending implications off her shoulders so that she can focus on healing and getting back to what she cherishes most – taking care of your loved ones.

We are truly honored to have such a wonderful clientele and are already so grateful to know each one of you. This “gofundme” Page was a very difficult decision for Dr. Keeney to agree to and I would never have done it without her consent, but I know this is what she needs and I’m making it my mission to get her though this as comfortable as I’m able to.

I will be contacting you if you are currently on her schedule from the dates of surgery through her recovery to give you more information on how I will be able assist you during that time and to answer any questions you have about her situation, the practice, the schedule and how that will flow during her recovery (note – she will be able to see patients on a limited basis during that time), and how refills will work. I will do my best to accommodate each one of you to the best of my ability.
