Dr Nicholas Wong PhD

Dr Nicholas Wong passed away on Friday, the 3rd of February 2023.

Nick was the most generous and caring person, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered as a loving husband and relative, the best of friends, an outstanding scientist and colleague, a caring mentor, and a polymath with many passions. One of these was fostering engagement and connection within the research community and furthering knowledge in a broad area of disciplines including epigenetics, transcriptomics, and bioinformatics. Another was to bring together the most different of people into close friendship groups. He had a big influence online, and has engaged thousands across Twitter under his handle @methylnick and through his favorite hashtag #notonlyabioinformatician. On top of all that, he was a devoted foodie, photographer, golfer, aviator, motorcyclist, camper, and most of all, had a great love for space and astronomy.

But Nick has also been struggling with mental illness for many years, and sadly has left this world far too early. Therefore, instead of flowers, we asked that you consider donating to our go-fund me campaign. Funds raised will, after supporting his funeral and memorial cost, be donated to mental health charity and support organizations. We are also planning to launch a dedicated charity in his name.
