Please donate to The Dr. Rey Monzon Memorial Scholarship Fund to establish a student scholarship in Dr. Rey Monzon’s name. Affectionately known as “Dr. Rey”', he was taken too early from us and we wish to continue his mission and service to supporting student success and having his legacy of research, teaching, advising and mentoring continue.
Dr. Monzon served 17 years at SDSU in multiple roles, such as Director of Analytical Studies & Institutional Research for Student Services, Doctoral Faculty for the College of Education and Faculty Advisor for Andres Bonifacio Samahan Filipinx student organization. He also was a triple alumnus of SDSU, earning his BA and MA Degrees in Psychology and his Ph.D. in Education at Claremont Graduate University/San Diego State University. Dr. Monzon was uniting people under a shared value for collective wellness, amplifying the voices of those who were often silenced and synthesizing his talent and passion for research to reframe and challenge narratives. His profound research changed students’ paths and supported their student experience beyond the classroom and into the local, regional and global communities.
Dr. Monzon’s service to the community spans across organizations, generations and geography. From San Diego to the Philippines, he sought to create changes rooted in equity and was guided by his vision for a community that fostered storytelling, community building, and sustainable change. His leadership and commitment will never be forgotten in advancing the Filipino/Filipino-American, Asian Pacific Islander Desi American community and he will always be known for uniting people under a shared vision, including all communities of color.
Donate to this memorial scholarship fund to honor Dr. Monzon's legacy and commemorate the impact he has made on student lives now and forever. In meeting the fundraising goal, we can endow a scholarship in his name and offer this student award annually for decades to come. Join us as we remember Dr. Rey Monzon as a remarkable leader, mentor, scholar, and devoted family member. Thank you for your generous support.
The Dr. Rey Monzon Legacy Committee includes faculty, staff, alumni, students and community members. If you have any questions, please contact us at the email found in the flyer.
