Dr.Shachar Shimonovich legacy Israel Trauma Course

For those who did not know Shack I wanted to share this to not only bring awareness to this very important mission but also to celebrate him and his legacy.

Shachar was our trauma fellow at Cooper Trauma during the 2020-2021 period. Affectionately known as “Shack”, he embodied extraordinary qualities as a compassionate doctor, skilled surgeon, and inspiring teacher. Shachar's dedication and passion led him back to Israel in 2021, armed with the expertise of a fully trained trauma surgeon. His love for the country was palpable. Tragically, in early 2023, Shachar was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer – at the age of 36. Despite a valiant fight, he peacefully passed away surrounded by his family and children on January 9th, 2024. Shachar's vision was to bring the ASSET course to surgeons in Israel, a dream he pursued with unwavering determination, even until his very last day. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, and the course he envisioned continues to be a testament to his enduring impact.

As a trauma surgeon at Cooper,I have been working on bringing the ASSET (advanced trauma surgical exposure course) to Israel . So many people generously donated but with the ongoing conflict we are still looking for more money as cost of everything is going up including surgical instruments, cadavers, shipping, and so much more. We need to continue to work on this project so we can bring Shacks legacy to life.

I know that this mission will have a lasting impact on trauma care in Israel, contributing to the overall well-being of the community during these challenging times. All of the money will go directly to Friends of Edith Wolfson a non-profit and Sheba Hospital we are working with.
