Dr Shelby Stewart

Just three years out of college, Shelby and her boyfriend Richard chose an adventure to work in Singapore for two years to emerse themselves in that culture and deepen their knowledge of veterinary medicine.

After traveling across country and to get settled in their new home, only seven days were allotted to get settled before work was to begin. On day four of her work, the symptoms of COVID-19 appeared. Only twenty-one hours later Shelby was admitted into the hospital. Each day has been an unsettling answer, but the medical care team is very good and we believe that they have our daughter’s best interest at heart. With that being said, the process of obtaining health insurance within the Singapore system had not been completed before the onset of Covid. The hospital estimates the cost to keep Shelby alive and get her on the road to recovery will begin at $200,000.00. She was diagnosed with myocarditis which has swelled both her left and right ventricles of her heart, to such a point that her heart cannot do the job on its own. The doctors placed her on an ECMO machine. Along with the ECMO machine, she also has a device called a parallel impella.

At this time, our family has one thing that we are truly focused on, which is our daughter’s life. When in a position where you never thought life would take you, having the vulnerability to ask for money doesn’t come first. Unfortunately, that is the position that we have found ourselves in. Whether that be prayer, words of encouragement, or the means to support our family. Anything at this time would be appreciated.
