DR. SPENCER LEE COOPER, Ph.D.
Dr. Spencer Lee Cooper was born on December 12, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the only child born of his parents, Leroy Cooper and Dorothy Neely. He married his loving wife, Marcia Kay Cooper, on June 23, 1984 in Washington, DC. He and his wife went on to give birth to one surviving child, Jacques Lee Cooper, born December 30, 1984. Dr. Cooper was raised in Columbus, Ohio and went on to become a member of the United States Air Force where he proudly served as an officer and Sergeant for 8 years. While enlisted, Dr. Cooper received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He also attended several graduate institutions on his path to receiving his Ph.D., including Ohio State University, Georgetown University and Harvard University.
Later in life, Dr. Cooper relocated to the Washington, DC Metropolitan area where he went on to start his own clinical psychology practice. He was an entrepreneur, and he was self-employed for the majority of his medical career. Dr. Cooper founded his own medical practice, The Stress Management Center, and he successfully maintained his clinical psychology business for over 30 years, operating two offices located in Oxon Hill, Maryland and Dupont Circle, Washington, DC. Dr. Cooper was a determined and hardworking man who overcame many obstacles and adversity in his life. He lived through the civil rights era and never allowed segregation or blatant racism to stop his ambition. He was a successful businessman and a loving Husband and Father.
Dr. Spencer Lee Cooper, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on January 17th, 2021. He is survived by his son, Jacques Lee Cooper, and his granddaughter, Kennedy Nicole Cooper, as well as many loved ones, family, and friends.
