Help Us Get Answers
Hello, my name is Mabel Greene.
How could my brother Ronnell Bell, a man with a clean bill of health (as stated by St. Luke's Hospital which he was discharged from) suddenly die of a heart attack? Well, first there is the gross negligence of the Morris Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility where he was transferred, but also, my family wants an autopsy to see if any medicines they gave him are responsible for his cardiac issues.
These facilities are able to skirt responsibility because they take advantage of low income families betting on the fact they don’t have enough money to move forward with suing them. This is why I am creating this Go Fund Me because my family needs help to get this autopsy which could help us build an even stronger case, and give us some closure.
The Story
My Brother Ronnell Bell fell in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem and tore his left and right quad muscle, along with tendons in his left knees. He was admitted to St. Luke’s hospital in early July. He stayed in that hospital for two weeks after corrective surgery until he was transferred to the Morris Park Nursing and Rehabilitation center in the Bronx.
On the morning of Monday July 26, my brother told the facility he was having intense chest pains and wanted to be transferred back to the hospital. Ronnell was told by the facility nurse that before he could be moved they needed to do blood work, and take a chest x-Ray. He called our father Ronald Greene at 9:30am to tell him the situation. My father spoke to my brother again at 2pm that same day. According to my brother, he was not taken to the hospital or given an x-ray. By 230, he was dead of a massive heart attack.
The facility didn't have a morgue they kept my brother’s body in an air conditioned room for three days. Why? Because of paperwork. On the day of his death, people from Mccalls Funeral Home in the Bronx came to take his body, but Morris Park turned them away because their paperwork was incorrect (whatever that means). On Tuesday, July 27, and Wednesday July 28, the Chief Medical officer of NYC came to get his body, and they were also turned away both days due to incorrect paperwork. His body was finally released to the Chief's office on Thursday and that is where it sits until this day. Due to their stalling we do not qualify for a free autopsy by the city because his papers state he died of natural causes. We spoke to Mccalls Funeral Home again and they told us they could find a private company that could help us but the cost would be between 5k-7k.
Again, this is why we're asking for help. Anything will help. Literally anything. I pray you or your loved ones never have to go through the trauma of dealing with this.
Thank you for your time.
