Drag Queens who saved my life

Donation protected
I am fundraising to replace the wig, nails and heels of the Drag Queens who saved me.

I was gay bashed on Oxford Street. Homophobia at its best. I was called a "fucking faggot" and got king hit.. without any provocation or ill actions towards the man who assaulted me.

It was supposedly the usual Saturday night..  ended up at Stonewall, the epi-centre of Sydney gay nightlife. I was on my way home, passing by the kebab shop, bumped into and was saying hello to Coco (drag queen) when the insults started interrupting us from behind me. I turned around and said to the guy and his friends "Don't call me or anyone faggot, it's offensive and of all the places you're on Oxford Street." He then grabbed my shirt so forceful it ripped out all buttons and replied with physical violence breaking my jaw, while screaming "you fucking faggot".

That's when they came - my saviour. It all happened so quickly. Like Destiny's Child they strutted in and saved me. Punches were flying. Hair was flicking. Nails were breaking. I was stunned on footpath, thankful drag queens exist. All I can think of is thank God. I feel like if they weren't there I would probably be dead. Like that guy who died from a king hit in Kings Cross. Thank God. Angels do exist.

I'm not acquainted with my hero. I saw her in a brawl with the guy who assaulted me, in the middle of the road, stopping traffic, cars swerving past and getting the attention of Police.

I hope to replace my hero's hair, ruined because of her good heart. To replace her nails, broken because of her courage. To get her new heels because she stood up for what is right. She risked herself for me. I could've been any one. It's the only thing I can think of to properly thank her. To her fellow angels and the quintessential importance of their presence in the community. The [role] model stature they hold when they slip on those heels. They take on hate crimes for us on a daily basis simply for exercising freedom we all deserve - our right to be ourselves. My experience made me realise, we have a lot to thank drag queens for.

I regret going out now. My friends says if it wasn't me, it would have been someone else but damn it, if only I had listened to myself and had a quiet night. Then again I am reminded of what a friend said at Mardi Gras, "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to dance!"

Thank you for listening to my story. This campaign is to raise awareness and fight against homophobia. That we have zero tolerance for homophobia and there is no place for it in our society. All donations will all get given to drag queens, our modern gay heroes!
