Dragon Update:
Life is just not fair.
Yesterday, Alex had a CAT scan done to see the extent of his palate issue. It turned out his soft palate issues was far greater then what we could see visibly. The specialist even stated “it’s no wonder the other surgeries failed as this would require a major surgery to repair. If we could do surgery it would be rather involved”
“IF” is seemly such a small word, but this time it stopped me dead in my tracks. “If”???
Alex, unfortunately, is not a candidate for surgery as it was discovered during the CAT scan he has kidney dysplasia- which is a fancy term for his kidneys not being properly formed. This results in renal failure- there is no cure. There is no way of fixing this. This is our new reality.
I will be making an appointment with an internist to find out the extent of issue but I’m going to be honest, I’m not optimistic. There will likely be meds and a special diet to buy us more time but that is likely it.
To say we are all heartbroken is an understatement. I’m still processing everything and I still have to find a way to tell my kids that we can’t fix our little Dragon. It was hard going home and having Caleb ask when is Alex getting surgery. I wasn’t ready to tell him everything as I need time to grieve first before help them understand that sometimes there’s nothing we can do.
As usual I’ll keep everyone updated. We will just take this one day at a time.See Less
